What is the difference between the regular milk sold in supermarkets and the A2 milk that has joined the never ending range of milk on offer?

The makers of A2 milk claim that it is rich in Natural Protein, so what does this mean?

A2 is the protein (beta casein) that has been identified by scientific research to be the original milk protein that would have been produced by the first domesticated cows thousands of years ago. At some point in history, owing to natural genetic mutation, the A1 form which is found in the regular milk, appeared in dairy cattle and was spread throughout dairy herds across Europe, becoming the common form of beta casein in many breeds of cows.

Traditional cattle breeds such as the zebu, the native Asian cattle and closely related animals such as the water buffalo and yak all still produce the A2 form of beta casein. Goat milk is also A2. The A1 milk protein is produced by many cows in New Zealand, Australia and other western countries.

The only difference between A1 and A2 is one amino acid, which is enough to alter the structure of the protein and the effects it has on the body.

Research has found the link between one of the proteins in the regular milk we drink and a range of serious illnesses, including heart disease, Type 1 diabetes, autism and schizophrenia.

In other international studies, A2 milk has been linked to a reduction of these illnesses. This may be due to the way the proteins are digested. A2 milk is now recognized as having disease prevention and nutritional benefits.

The taste of milk varies slightly from brand to brand and I must say the A2 milk tastes like milk used to 30 years ago. Our genetic makeup is founded on our ancestral diets, so it is usually a good idea to go back to the original food source to maintain good health. With this information and research at hand my family now drinks A2 milk and we are eagerly waiting for a wider variety of A2 dairy products to become available.

Oct/Nov 2008 - THE PIT HEALING Rita Face Paint

Dear friends,
On the 3rd, 4th, 5th of October 2008, I flew to Perth, to be part of a Traditional Aboriginal Pit Healing, facilitated by Life Academy. (Life Academy is the college that I am studying my Advanced Diploma in Life Counseling and Mind-Body Medicine). You may recall in my last email that I wrote about the wonderful healing properties of flowers and the Mind-Body Medicine Clinic at the Australian College of Natural Medicine – which has changed its name to Endeavour College.

I had an amazing time that I wanted to share with you all. On the Friday I met the founders of the course Vasu and Kadambii Barnao. To hear them teach and speak in person and be in their presence was inspirational. Their casual, warm and welcoming approach was heartfelt. I felt so privileged to be part of a ‘live’ discussion with them. I also met the other teachers that I have spoken to over the phone and assisted me with my assignments (I usually study as an external student). I now feel even more connected to them.

On the Saturday, I assisted Life Academy, teachers and students to pick the flowers we were going to use at the Flower Pit Healing. The rituals before we began picking the flowers were so very special and sacred. Please remember that flowers are alive and have their own evolution. How flowers are picked and treated are an important part of the process. Imagine a world without flowers! The flowers were brought back to Kadambii’s property and we placed them in her spring lake. The flowers would rest and be rejuvenated for the morning Pit Healing as well as provide the lake with healing energy. (See photo attached of us standing in the spring lake to give thanks to the flowers and obtain their healing properties).

This magical day began at 5am. Our faces were painted to represent that we are all made up of the same energy, and united us in this healing ritual. (See the photo of me). The Kangaroo eyes, the water sign on my chin, the flower on my cheek, and holding two branches of gum leaves to represent the kangaroo paws. We then stood around the lake holding hands (there were about 70 people) and Nunjan who is the Elder of the Aboriginal People said some inspirational words as well as Charmaine, Kadambii and Vasu. It was time for the Pit Healing to begin and we put the flowers that were in the lake on a Bark blanket and carried them to the Pit. There were seven Pits. Two were allocated to the men and the other five to the women. As part of the Aboriginal tradition, the Pits were not mixed, but partners could go to each other’s Pit to support their healing. Entering the Pit for healing was on a needs basis, chosen by Kadambii, Vasu and Nunjan or the Pit Mother and Pit Father of each allocated Pit. One of my colleagues was chosen first and I was very excited for her. She did have to take most of her clothes off (I forgot to mention that it was freezing at 6am) and enter the Pit with a few insects crawling around her. This did not matter. This opportunity did not come every day. While my colleague was in the Pit, we stood around her Pit and sang traditional Aboriginal songs, we stomped around the Pit, we meditated around the Pit, and we sent our loving energy to her. The healing energy was extremely powerful. We were all connected. She stayed in the Pit for two hours.

MY EXPERIENCE IN THE PIT

Kadambii asked if I wanted to go into the Pit. I felt honored and was thankful. I went to the Lake to put sand on my legs, tummy and back as this helped the flowers interact with the body and was helped into the Pit. I lay down and was very surprised to find how soft the bed of flowers really was. The bark blanket was put on top of me. I was in heaven! It was the most beautiful bed I had ever laid in. On a physical level the Pit was soft and warm (there were hot coals under the sand and flowers). I was ‘snug as a bug.’ On a spiritual and emotional level, I felt safe, protected, loved and at peace. Not a care in the world, the world is perfect, I am perfect. The smells of the flowers are indescribable, but I will try by saying they were soothing, calming, and delicious. I can still smell them today, and continue to feel the wonderful benefits of my Pit Healing. (See the photo of me resting in the Pit).

Thanks for taking the time to read my story. For more information and photo’s about The Pit Healing and Life Academy go to:

I can’t wait to add Flower Essence to my business because it is truly amazing. Next time you are attracted to a beautiful flower reach out your hand to it and keep your palm over the flower for 5 minutes. You will be surprised with how you feel. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my wonderful experience. Have a wonderful October. I look forward to providing you one of my special treatments.
